RiverCity Water Polo Club welcomes new members. Whether you are looking for a high performance pathway, to make new friends, keep fit, have fun or any or all of the above, RiverCity Water Polo has a team and a community for you to join.
Something for everyone
If you want to play water polo, we have a place for you.
From Junior Sharks for those too young yet for under 12s, through to our Senior Social teams, there is a team for every age group.
Just starting out or getting back into social water polo for fun, through to Premier League and state/national, RiverCity has teams, coaching and competitions suitable for all levels.
Come and Try Sessions
Not quite sure what it is all about and want to give it a go before signing up? Our "Come and Try" sessions are a great way to experience the sport firsthand, meet our friendly coaches and members, and see if water polo is the right fit for you. No previous experience is needed—just bring a positive attitude and a desire to have fun!
Check out our Events menu above and register for a "Come and Try" event. If there aren't scheduled at the moment, don't worry we'll find a way, just contact info@rivercitywaterpolo.com.
Stay in touch
Follow us on FaceBook or Instagram to keep up with Club News and find out when Events are happening. Or please feel free to get in touch with us directly at info@rivercitywaterpolo.com and one of our committee members will be happy to walk you through what to expect from your RiverCity experience.
What to Expect
As a new member, here’s what you can look forward to:
- Training: Twice a week, on Sundays and mid-week (typically Wednesday or Thursday depending on age group) training sessions focusing on skill development, teamwork, and fitness. We understand it can be difficult to train twice a week, particularly mid-week for the younger players, so if you can't make both, one training session a week (preferrably Sunday) is fine.
- Games: Exciting matches against other clubs, with opportunities for all skill levels. Games are typically scheduled on Saturdays in the regular season (Terms 4 and 1) for juniors, with further opportunities to enter development pathways through State Titles and the Australian Youth Championship.
- Development: Our coaches are experienced and passionate about helping every player improve. Whether you are an elite player looking for development progression through representive pathways, a social player just wanting to have fun, and everthing in between, our coaches can cater to your needs.
- A fun and friendly culture: We are proud of our kind, supportive, fun, and friendly culture. We like to train hard and play hard, but we also like to support and have fun with our team mates. If that sounds like you, you'll fit right in.
Costs
We are a not for profit club aiming to make water polo as accessible as possible to whoever wants to play. We strive to keep costs affordable and transparent, and everything goes back into our club for our members to play water polo.
The main costs are uniforms and fees.
Uniforms
The only uniform items you need are togs and a cap, we provide the rest of the equipment. You'll find prices on the shop on this site.
There are also other items in the shop for those that want to support the club and to wear the team colours. But these are optional, and there is no expectation that any member needs to buy them.
Fees
Our fees are all inclusive, no surprises. Aside from uniforms, our fees cover everything you need - training, pool entry, coaching, equipment, awards, end of season break up party, etc.
There are two main types of fees, registration (membership) and competition entry fees.
Registration fees
Registration fees make you a member of the club, and there are different membership levels for different levels of participation. These fees are capitation fees charged by Water Polo Queensland we essentially pass on, and crucially cover insurance for participation in events.
Your registration lasts a year, and makes you eligible to enter events throughout the year with the club - the main event being the summer season, but there are other competitions and events as well.
Competition/event fees
Competitions and events have entry fees which vary depending on the organiser.
Again as a not for profit club, we aim to pass on just the cost to us of entering the competition and covering training, coaching etc.
You’ll find details about specific competition fees in our Competitions section. Unfortunately we can't always control when information on specific competition costs are available from the organisers, but we make that information available as soon as possible.
For Parents
Being a water polo parent involves supporting your child’s sporting journey. Here’s what you need to know:
- Training and Games: Team Managers will keep you informed about training schedules and game days, times, and locations.
- FairPlay Vouchers: Take advantage of Queensland’s FairPlay vouchers to help cover registration costs. Learn more about how to apply and redeem them on our FairPlay page under the Info Hub in the menu above.
- Uniforms: We provide all of the equipment, all your player needs are RiverCity togs and a game cap from our shop. You'll find other items in our shop which you might like, but aren't essential.
- Follow us on social media: Our fabulous volunteer social media managers post regularly on Facebook and Instagram, following these is a great way to keep up to date with any news or changes from the club.
Inclusion and FairPlay
At RiverCity, we are committed to inclusivity and supporting every player. Our inclusion policies ensure that all members feel welcome and valued, regardless of background or ability.
We're registered to accept FairPlay vouchers to offset the cost of fees, making it easier for more people to participate. Find out more on the FairPlay page under our Info Hub in the menu above.

Volunteering Opportunities
Volunteering is a fantastic way to get involved, meet our friendly community, and support our club. Here’s how you can help:
- Team Managers: Assist with organising teams, communicating with parents, and ensuring smooth operation of game days.
- Table Duty: Help manage scorekeeping and other administrative tasks during games. Training will be provided, and it’s a great way to get closer to the action!
There are pages on both Team Managers and Table Duty under the Info Hub section of this site, accessible in the menu above.
We appreciate all volunteers, and every contribution helps us provide a positive experience for our members and helps keep our community involved and strong.
