Table Duty

Each participating team must supply a minimum of one accredited Table Official for their own match. Combined with a Table Official from the opposing team they will fulfil the Secretary and Timekeeper roles for the game. Event officials are generally only provided for finals.

These roles are not difficult but do require some training and preparation. A free training course with basic accreditation is available in the Water Polo Learning Centre at https://www.waterpoloaustralia.com.au/learn/learn-table-officials.

Completing the course and obtaining accreditation will provide you with a thorough understanding of water polo rules, helping you to follow the nuances of the game. Additionally, it helps distribute table duties more evenly among team members, preventing the burden from falling disproportionately on a few individuals.

To be ready for table duty

  • Register as a member of RiverCity if you aren't already
    • There is free Bronze registration for volunteers
  • Complete the training course in Water Polo Australia's Water Polo Learning Centre
    • You will need your RiverCity membership credentials to log in
    • This course must be completed to be considered accredited
  • Register your Blue Card or exemption with RiverCity - required by Water Polo Australia
    • If you have a Blue Card or exemption, simply send your
      • name, date of birth and the card number
      • to registrar@rivercitywaterpolo.com
    • If you don't have a Blue Card or exemption, don't worry, the process is free and simple

For those that have completed the training, but are not confident, a great way to gain experience is to sit alongside an experienced table official for a game - it is fine for your team to have two Table Officials at the table for this purpose.

The pool officials, referees, and other table officials are very welcoming and helpful, and it is a great way to learn more about the game.
